There are many new, used, and refurbished Rainbow vacuum models that one can choose from. In this article we will go over a few of the models that Rainbow has unveiled over the years.

Types of Rainbow Vacuum Models

Here are just a few of the Rainbow Vacuum models that are still being sold to this day:

Rainbow D4 Model

The D4 Model is in my opinion one of the best Rainbow Vacuum models. It is one that I still use to this day at home because of it’s reliability along with affordability. Not only does it do a good job of cleaning my floors, it also deodorizes the air with the nice scent of eucalyptus.

My mother has been using her D4 Rainbow model literally since I was born. That is a testament to how reliable this vacuum model by Rainbow is. That’s not to say that we never needed to repair it. Over the years we did need to due to accidentally tipping it over and causing the water to seep into the motor.

If you’re wondering who did that, yes it was me and my mother wasn’t very happy with me about that. She still mentions it to this day – 15 years later.

The repairs needed for our D4 model were mostly due to our mishandling of it. It wasn’t anything to do with the model itself or the workmanship. D4s are the most solid models by Rainbow in my experience.

If I had to recommend one Rainbow model over there other models it would be the D4 model.

If you do end up purchasing a pre-owned model, make sure that you get it from a certified Rainbow dealer so that you know it is a good purchase. And you know where to take it in case you need  a repair in the future. Finding the right Rainbow Dealer that also has a great repair service can be a challenge. So make sure that you choose your Rainbow shop wisely.

Rainbow E Series Model

The E-2 model e SERIES Rainbow was created in two different versions. The second version has an easily removable rear cover that allows the user to change the HEPA filter much easier. While the first version has four screws that need to be removed prior to accessing the HEPA filter.

The E-2 initially had two different motor variations but it wasn’t translated to the revisions. Both motor designs were installed in both of the E-2 unit versions. The AME motor was made by Ametek and was actually lower quality than the second variation.

The second version, GSE, was made by GS Electric and was a superior motor compared to the one that was made by AME. In 2001 Ametek bought out GS Electric and became the only manufacturer that supplied motors for the Rainbow E-2. Ametek decided to drop the production of the AME motor and focused exclusively on the production of the GSE motor.

Rainbow E2 Type 12 Gold

This is the “Gold” version Rainbow. The early production of this model has a really similar design compared to the E-2 (e SERIES) Rainbow.

Another major upgrade to the Gold version system in comparison to previous Rainbow vacuum models was the implementation of reduced sound. The motor has had a number of improvements during its inception to help increase durability.

The sound reduction acoustic foam installed in the system made a significant difference in the noise level of both HI and LOW speeds.

The “Silver” series E2 Type 12 Rainbow has two versions. The differences of these Rainbow vacuum models are mainly in the motor, and the second version has design improvements to aid with motor and pump longevity.

Rainbow E2 Type 12 Black

Rainbow E2 Type 12 Black

There are two versions of the E2 Type 12 Black series Rainbow. The main difference between Version 1 and Version 2 of these Rainbow vacuum models is the LED light that was added to the front of the face plate in 2012 to make it look fancier.

Although the E2 Black has a different appearance, it is internally similar to the E2 Type 12 Silver.

There are two main distinctions between the Black and Silver Rainbow vacuum models. Firstly, new blue and white LED lights that shine into the water pan allowing you to see the dirt and debris that you trap into the basin as you go about using the vacuum. The LED shining into the water basin also allows you to see when it’s time to change the water. Secondly, they decided to remove the collapsible arms for the cord wrap so that you are able to remove the cord quickly.

Rainbow SRX

The SRX has the most high tech modern design of the Rainbow vacuum models unveiled by Rexair in 2019. There’s many design and functional upgrades in this model. The 4 speed motor makes it even more of a breeze to clean your home, place of business, or vehicle! The SRX also boasts a new motor that increases airflow by over 30%. But that’s not all, it comes with a built in timer that turns the system off after 30, 60, or 90 minutes when running.

A lower profile was incorporated into the design so that you don’t tip over the system when it’s being used. A really smart move by Rexair. This is a real game changer for the Rainbow system because it protects the motor from becoming compromised by the water and anything else that floats in the basin when in use. Saving you from pricey trips to the the Rainbow repair shop!

The motor is designed to be used twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. You don’t need to worry about overusing your Rainbow SRX!

The buttons on the SRX are soft to the touch and also forward-facing so that you can easily switch between it’s functions. While the 2nd version Gold series first incorporated the quiet option, the SRX has successfully lowered the noise output even further, making it the most quiet one of the Rainbow vacuum models available today.
